Power.Win banner: is online blackjack rigged

Last updated: 29 September 2026

Three dealer 21s in a row and your first thought isn’t maths. It’s “this game is rigged.”

Key Takeaways

  • A losing streak feels like evidence, but streaks are built into the ordinary odds of every hand.
  • RNG, live dealer and provably fair blackjack are each checked in a different way, and only one lets you check a hand yourself.
  • Power.Win’s Blackjack Original lets you verify every hand against a seed hash shown before the deal.
  • A handful of red flags on a site tells you far more than any run of bad cards.

Here’s how each kind of online blackjack is kept honest, who does the checking, and what’s left for you to check.

RNG blackjack Live dealer blackjack Provably fair blackjack
Who deals the cards Software that picks each card at random A human dealer drawing from a physical shoe on camera Software whose result comes from seeds committed before the bet
Who tests it An independent test lab, before release The studio that supplies the table You, plus the operator’s published method
What you can check yourself The certificate and the table rules The rules card and the cards you see dealt The server seed hash, your client seed, the nonce and the revealed seed
Where Power.Win offers it Third-party tables in the casino lobby, certified by their providers The live Blackjack Lobby, certified by its providers The Blackjack Original, one of six PWR Originals

Is online blackjack rigged?

A losing run doesn’t show that blackjack is rigged: a licensed, tested game loses about 49% of hands by design, so long losing runs are normal. The fairness question is whether anyone can check the deal, and that depends on which kind of online blackjack you’re playing.

Start with the rate. The Wizard of Odds variance tables put the net result of a hand, under basic strategy and a six-deck game with common rules, at 42.43% win, 8.48% push and 49.09% loss. ### How often should you lose five hands in a row?

Losing five straight hands happens about 2.85% of the time, roughly once in every 35 five-hand runs. That’s 0.4909 multiplied by itself five times.

Now stretch it over a normal session. Across 100 hands, the chance of at least one run of five or more losses is about 78%, by our calculation from the same 49.09% rate (a push breaks the run). Seeing one proves nothing about the deal.

What does the rules panel cost you in dollars?

The rules move your long-run cost far more than any streak. The Wizard of Odds rule-variation table prices each change against a standard game.

Rule change Effect on your expected return Cost on $1,000 wagered (100 hands at $10)
Blackjack pays 6:5 instead of 3:2 −1.39 percentage points about $13.90
Dealer hits soft 17 −0.22 percentage points about $2.20
Blackjack pays 1:1 −2.27 percentage points about $22.70

A 6:5 payout on a natural costs you 1.39 percentage points of expected return, about $13.90 for every $1,000 you wager (Wizard of Odds).

So if you play blackjack online for real money, read the payout line before the first deal. A table that pays 6:5 plays fair by its own rules, but it’s quietly more expensive.

How does RNG blackjack shuffle the cards?

RNG blackjack picks each card with a random number generator, and an independent lab tests that generator before the game goes live. Most RNG tables reshuffle before every hand, so no hand remembers the last one.

The lab work follows published standards. One widely used set is GLI-11 from Gaming Laboratories International, listed on the GLI standards page, which covers how gaming devices produce random results.

Certification tells you the generator passed testing. It doesn’t let you replay a specific hand. For what a certificate does and doesn’t prove, see what RNG certification proves.

On Power.Win, the third-party RNG blackjack tables in the blackjack lobby are certified by their providers. They aren’t provably fair, and they’re never labelled that way.

How does provably fair blackjack prove the deal?

Provably fair blackjack locks in its secret input before you bet, then hands it back so you can recompute the hand. If the hash of the revealed seed matches the one you saw first, the result wasn’t changed after your bet.

Here’s the sequence Power.Win describes on its provably fair page:

  1. Commit. Before play, a random server seed is generated and hashed with SHA-256. You see only the hash.
  2. Your input. A client seed comes from your browser or device, and you can set your own at any time.
  3. Count. A nonce starts at 0 and rises by 1 with every bet, so each hand has a unique input.
  4. Reveal. When you rotate your seeds, the previous server seed is revealed. Hash it and compare it with the commitment.

Power.Win’s Blackjack Original is one of six PWR Originals, with Dice, Roulette, Crash, Mines and Plinko, and those six are the only provably fair games on the site. For which games elsewhere carry the label, see this guide to provably fair crypto casino games.

The game’s own fairness panel adds one detail: “This hash and client seed are for this game only.” The cards for a hand are produced for that bet from those inputs.

For the full walkthrough of running the check, read how to verify a result yourself.

Can live blackjack online be rigged?

Live blackjack online uses real cards, a real dealer and a physical shoe streamed to your screen, so every card that decides your hand is dealt where you can watch it. Its assurance comes from the studio that runs the table, not from a seed you can hash.

What the stream shows you is every card leaving the shoe and landing on the felt. What it doesn’t show is the order of the shoe before the deal. That’s the limit of any live game.

On Power.Win, the live Blackjack Lobby tables come from third-party studios and are certified by their providers. They aren’t provably fair. Each table sets its own rules, so read the rules card on every live table before you sit down.

What official proof should a crypto blackjack site publish?

A crypto blackjack site should put its proof on its own pages: the operator and licence, the fairness method, a certificate that names a test house, and the table rules. Here’s what Power.Win publishes, with the page each fact comes from.

Proof What Power.Win publishes Where to find it
Operator and licence 3-102-968317 SRL (Costa Rica), Tobique Gaming Commission licence 0000209 Site footer
Fairness method Server seed hashed with SHA-256 before play, editable client seed, nonce from 0 rising by 1 per bet, seed reveal on rotation power.win/provably-fair
Independent verification Checkable in the Power.Win interface or with external tools power.win/provably-fair
RNG certificate Issued by Lean Lab Company Limited, Malta, naming 3-102-968317 SRL power.win/rng-certificate
Blackjack Original rules Dealer stands on all 17s including soft 17; blackjack pays 3:2; insurance pays 2:1; up to 3 hands at once power.win/games/blackjack
Per-game seeds “This hash and client seed are for this game only” Blackjack Original fairness panel

The rules panel doesn’t list surrender or double-after-split, so read it yourself if those rules shape how you play.

How can you tell if online blackjack is rigged?

Judge a blackjack site by what it lets you check, not by how you’re running. Five red flags matter more than any streak:

  • No licence number. “Licensed and regulated” with no body and no number isn’t a fact you can act on.
  • No certificate and no seed check. If there’s no test report and no way to verify a hand, fairness is only a claim.
  • Rules hidden until after the deal. The payout, the soft-17 rule and the split rules should be readable before you bet.
  • 6:5 dressed up as “blackjack pays.” A felt that just says “blackjack pays” without 3:2 is hiding a 1.39-point cost.
  • Withdrawal rules you can’t find. Payout terms and identity-verification requirements should be published before you deposit, so nothing about cashing out comes as a surprise.

Whatever site you’re weighing, run the same five checks. A clean result on all five is worth more than any review score.

Is Power.Win’s blackjack fair?

Power.Win’s Blackjack Original is provably fair: you can verify each hand against the seed hash shown before the deal. Its live and third-party RNG tables are certified by their providers instead, which is a different claim.

Every hand on the site, Original or live, runs on a platform licensed by the Tobique Gaming Commission, licence 0000209, operated by 3-102-968317 SRL (Costa Rica).

Its fairness method and RNG certificate are published on the pages linked above, and the Original’s rules panel is readable before you bet. For how its blackjack compares on rules and payouts, see what separates crypto blackjack sites.

Whether you can play online blackjack depends on where you are, because gambling rules differ from one country and state to the next. Read your local law and Power.Win’s terms of service, including the places it doesn’t serve, before you sit down at a table.

The tools that keep play in check sit alongside the games: deposit limits, self-exclusion and reality checks. They’re covered in the close below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I keep losing at online blackjack?

Because the dealer wins about 49.09% of hands and you win about 42.43%, with the rest pushing (Wizard of Odds, basic strategy, six decks). Runs of five straight losses happen in about 78% of 100-hand sessions. Basic strategy trims mistakes, but it doesn’t remove the house edge.

Are online casinos rigged in general?

You can’t answer that from results, only from what a site lets you check. A licensed site should name its licensing body and publish a lab test certificate for its RNG games.

Provably fair games are a separate claim: they should show a SHA-256 seed hash before you bet. The idea behind that last check is explained in what a provably fair casino is.

Is online blackjack harder than casino blackjack?

The maths per hand is the same; the rules change the price. Whether the dealer hits soft 17 costs about 0.22 points, and how many decks are in the shoe moves the edge by smaller amounts. Compare the rules panel, not the setting.

Can online blackjack detect card counters?

On most RNG tables there’s nothing to detect, because the cards are reshuffled before each hand and a count never builds. Live shoes are different, and in Nevada using a device to track cards is a crime under NRS 465.075. The details are in how to count cards in blackjack.

What should you do if a blackjack result looks wrong?

On a provably fair game, rotate your seeds, hash the revealed server seed with SHA-256 and compare it with the hash you saw before the deal. A mismatch is proof worth sending to support with the round details. On a certified table, raise it with support and the licensing body named on the site.

Blackjack is entertainment. It’s never an income and never a fix for a money problem. Set a limit before you start, take breaks, and never double up just to win back losses.

Power.Win’s responsible gambling tools include daily, weekly or monthly deposit limits, self-exclusion from three months to five years or indefinitely, and reality checks. The same page points to BeGambleAware and a self-check quiz if play stops feeling like a choice.
